Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan has for the first time confirmed violations at quarries in the floodplain of the Ilek River in the Aktobe region. Companies have been fined over 1.5 million tenge for illegal sand extraction and unauthorised blocking of the river channel.
