The mansion of the former chairman of the National Security Committee (NSC) Karim Masimov in Astana has been transferred to the Centre for Analysis and Information under the Information Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Information. The building is planned to house the centre's employees after the necessary documents are processed and the facility is prepared for use as an office.

WHO THE MANSION WAS TRANSFERRED TO

According to Kursiv, in 2026 the mansion was transferred to the balance sheet of the Centre for Analysis and Information (CAI). The decision is based on an order dated 8 May and an approval dated 20 July. The agency did not specify the reason for the change of the balance holder.

The building is located in the Karaotkel microdistrict on Yereymentau Street, 1. In September 2025, the Company for the Management of Returned Assets transferred the mansion and other property of Masimov into republican ownership under a gift agreement.

WHEN EMPLOYEES WILL MOVE INTO THE BUILDING

The committee stated that the facility is intended to accommodate CAI employees after the necessary documents are processed and the building is brought into compliance with its planned purpose.

According to the committee, no decisions have been taken to sell the building or transfer it to another person.

WHY THE MANSION COULD NOT BE SOLD

The property had previously been put up for auction twice with a starting price of 1.8 billion tenge, but no bids were received. Later, the mansion was put up for auction again, with the price reduced by 282 million tenge — to approximately 1.6 billion tenge.

The option of transferring the building to Astana for social needs was also considered. However, the Astana education department declined it due to non-compliance with sanitary standards.

After that, the mansion was assigned to the National Scientific and Practical Centre for the Development of Special and Inclusive Education of the Ministry of Education. At the time, the Company for the Management of Returned Assets explained the decision by the possibility of using a ready-made building with a plot of land without additional construction costs.
