Altai Askar, the eldest son of Timur and Dinara Kulibayev and grandson of former president Nursultan Nazarbayev, turns out to hold a second citizenship. He applied for and was granted Cypriot citizenship in 2019 — a few months before the investment citizenship programme was closed.

Journalist Mikhail Kozachkov reported that the American publication NewsBreak published an article about alleged corruption at Tengizchevroil (TCO), an international consortium involved in oil extraction at the Tengiz field. Shortly after publication, the article was removed from the site.

Near the village of Kyzyltal in the Burlin district of the West Kazakhstan region, local residents discovered fragments of an unmanned aerial vehicle. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that an unidentified UAV had exploded.
