The Department of the Financial Monitoring Agency has launched a pre-trial investigation into the management of the Atyrau Oil Refinery LLP for abuse of official authority.

The operator of the Kashagan field, North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC), has lost a court case regarding the results of an environmental audit at the field. The court's appeal panel ruled in favour of the authorities, leaving the NCOC consortium with no chance to appeal.
