The Prosecutor’s Office of the Turkestan Region uncovered a scheme for embezzling more than 24 million tenge at the Employment Centre and the akimat of the village of Atameken, Zhetysai District. According to the press service of the department, officials fraudulently employed unemployed people, including under the youth practice scheme.

“More than 30 people who received unemployed status did not actually perform any community work and were unaware of this”, the prosecutor’s office press service reports.

It is reported that officials transferred salaries to the accounts of dummy workers every month. After that, the money was cashed out by other individuals. At the same time, employees of the Centre and the akimat supposedly involved their relatives and acquaintances in community work.

“The materials have been registered in the information log and transferred to the territorial Anti-Corruption Service for pre-trial investigation”, the statement says.

It should be recalled that earlier it was reported that the Anti-Corruption Service of the Almaty Region is conducting a pre-trial investigation into the head of the State Institution “Department of Education of the Ili District, Almaty Region”. She is suspected of embezzling 680 million tenge. The investigation believes she paid salaries to fictitious employees who are not actually working in the secondary schools of the Ili District.

It was also reported that the management of the private kindergarten “RozAl” Centre in Taraz is suspected of embezzling 13 million tenge allocated to fund pre-school organisations. According to the city prosecutor’s office, the director received budget funds for children who did not actually attend the kindergarten.
