Parliamentary deputies approved in the first reading the draft law "On the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan". The document provides for the systematisation of norms on the status of the President, proposes to introduce the institution of Vice-President and clarify the powers of the Head of State in accordance with the updated Constitution.

Murat Yergeshbayev has been appointed as the akim of Kyzylorda region. The corresponding decree was signed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Former akim of the Kenkiyak rural district in the Aktobe region, Kuanyshbek Serikzhanov, was found dead on the morning of 6 May in his own home. The day before, an order had been signed for his dismissal from the post.

A major fire broke out on the territory of the Khorgos International Centre for Cross-Border Cooperation, resulting in the destruction of 17 Kazakhstani lorries. The blaze occurred on the side of the People's Republic of China (PRC), and the investigation is being conducted by the relevant Chinese authorities.
