In Almaty, a road sign on Zhanysugurov Street was dismantled after residents discovered several spelling errors on it. The complaints concerned the incorrect spelling of city names and the surname of a statesman.
HOW THE ERRORS WERE DISCOVERED
A user of the social network Threads posted a photo of the road sign and suggested others look out for possible inaccuracies. The post specified that the sign was installed in Almaty on Zhanysugurov Street.
In the comments, users immediately pointed out several spelling errors in both Kazakh and Russian.

WHAT ERRORS WERE FOUND
Residents noted three incorrect spellings:
- The surname of the statesman Turar Ryskulov was given as "Rysqulov" instead of the correct Kazakh version "Rysqūlov".
- The city name Taldykorgan was written as "Taldykurgan", whereas the correct forms are "Taldyqorğan" (Kaz.) and "Taldykorgan" (Rus.).
- The city name Konayev was indicated as "Kunayev", instead of the official versions "Qonayev" (Kaz.) and "Konayev" (Rus.).
RESPONSE FROM THE AKIMAT
The Almaty akimat reported that the sign has already been dismantled. The department also promised to correct the identified errors.
