The former deputy akim of the East Kazakhstan Region (EKR) Zhaksylyk Omar will not be able to benefit from parole or amnesty due to the category of crimes committed.
WHAT THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE STATED
The Ust-Kamenogorsk prosecutor's office clarified that current legislation directly excludes the possibility of applying amnesty and parole to individuals convicted of corruption offences.
It was also noted that the state prosecutor requested the maximum possible punishment, taking into account the expedited procedure for handling the case.
WHAT SENTENCE THE COURT IMPOSED
The court sentenced Zhaksylyk Omar to six years' imprisonment. Additionally, his property was confiscated and he was banned from holding positions in public service for life.
At present, the sentence has not entered into legal force. The parties to the proceedings have the right to appeal it in the prescribed manner.
Zhaksylyk Omar held the post of first deputy akim of the EKR from April 2025. Prior to his appointment, he headed Ust-Kamenogorsk for six years.
