Ust-Kamenogorsk Court No.2 has sentenced the former deputy akim of the East Kazakhstan Region (EKR) Zhaksylyk Omar, finding him guilty of fraud and bribery.

WHAT SENTENCE DID THE COURT HAND DOWN

According to YK-news.kz, the criminal case was heard under a summary procedure. The final hearing took place on 3 April.

The court found Zhaksylyk Omar guilty and sentenced him to 6 years in prison. Additionally, the court ordered:

  • confiscation of the Toyota car;
  • a lifetime ban from holding positions in the civil service, the judicial system, local government bodies and the quasi-public sector.

CONTEXT

Zhaksylyk Omar held the post of first deputy akim of the EKR since April 2025. Prior to his appointment, he had headed Ust-Kamenogorsk for six years.

On 18 February the KNB confirmed that a pre-trial investigation was being conducted into Zhaksylyk Omar. Other details were not disclosed at that time.

The case was heard on two counts. The first related to an incident involving a car, with damages estimated at 13 million tenge. The second concerned the transfer of money, which the prosecution classified as bribery.

During the trial, Zhaksylyk Omar pleaded guilty in full to the charges of fraud and bribery.

Furthermore, the state prosecutor had previously requested 6 years in prison for the defendant. At the same time, he asked for mitigating circumstances to be taken into account, namely the absence of a criminal record and the presence of seven children, as well as an aggravating circumstance — the violation of a civil servant's oath.

The final sentence matched the requested punishment.
