Akim of the East Kazakhstan Region (EKR) Nurymbet Saktaganov submitted his resignation following the conviction of his former first deputy Zhaksylyk Omar. However, after reviewing the application, his resignation was refused.

WHY THE AKIM SUBMITTED HIS RESIGNATION

According to the press service of the EKR akim, Nurymbet Saktaganov submitted his resignation in accordance with the procedure established by law.

After reviewing the application, a decision was made not to grant it. It was noted that this decision was made considering the head of the region's non-involvement in the relevant case.

The press service noted that the head of the region's activities in all areas of the region's socio-economic development continue as normal.

WHAT DECISION THE COURT MADE EARLIER

On 3 April, the inter-district criminal court of Ust-Kamenogorsk found Zhaksylyk Omar guilty of fraud and bribery.

The court sentenced the former official to 6 years in prison. Additionally, the court ordered the confiscation of a Toyota car and imposed a lifetime ban on holding positions in the civil service, the judiciary, local government bodies, and the quasi-public sector.

WHAT THE LAW SAYS

According to current regulations, political civil servants are obliged to resign if their direct subordinate has committed a corruption offence and a conviction has entered into legal force.

At the same time, the final decision on the resignation is made by senior management. In the case of Nurymbet Saktaganov, the application was reviewed, but no grounds for granting it were found.
