In the North Kazakhstan region, a sentence was passed on the head of the housing and communal services (HCS) department of the Taiynsha district. He was found guilty of embezzling budget funds.
According to the press service of the regional prosecutor's office, law enforcement officers uncovered the embezzlement of 15.9 million tenge during an inspection of the HCS department.
It became known that the manager fictitiously concluded a single-source government procurement contract with an entrepreneur for the purchase of a modular pipeline device to ensure heat supply for socially significant facilities in the city of Taiynsha.
At the same time, he did not inform the businessman of his illegal actions.
"Regarding the identified violations, on 6 July 2024, the district prosecutor's office initiated a pre-trial investigation under paragraph 2 of part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code (misappropriation or embezzlement of entrusted property)," the statement reads.
Ultimately, the head of the department was found guilty and sentenced to 8 years in prison with a lifelong ban from holding positions in the civil service, the judicial system, local government bodies, the National Bank and its structures, the authorised body for regulation, control and supervision of the financial market and financial organisations, as well as in state organisations and quasi-public sector entities. The court decision has not yet entered into force.
It will be recalled that earlier in the same district, officials from the akimat and a local entrepreneur were convicted of bribery. It was reported that the deputy akim of the district and the head of the HCS department received a bribe of 10 million tenge from a businessman for the unhindered signing of completion certificates for road repair works.
Consequently, the Petropavlovsk city court sentenced them to between 3 years 6 months and 7 years 6 months in prison, with a lifelong ban from holding positions in the civil service and quasi-public sector entities.
