The inter-district court of the city of Aksu, Pavlodar region has announced a verdict in the case of embezzlement of budget funds on an especially large scale. The former head of the city's construction department and the head of a contracting company were found guilty of stealing over 291 million tenge.

According to the press service of the prosecutor's office of the Pavlodar region, the trial was held with the participation of representatives of state bodies and was of a demonstrative nature.

As it became known, last year the Aksu prosecutor's office uncovered the fact of illegal signing of acts of completed work on the construction of four sports and fitness complexes. The facilities were put into operation, but in fact, part of the work was not completed.

Despite this, the funds allocated from the budget were transferred to the contractor. Damage to the state amounted to more than 290 million tenge. The defendants directed part of the money to the accounts of affiliated organisations.

As a result, the former head of the construction department and the contractor were sentenced to 7 years in prison. The court's verdict has not yet entered into legal force.

Recall that earlier in the Akmola region, a contractor and the head of a construction department were also convicted. The defendants submitted fictitious acts of completed work with inflated volumes and costs, although in fact part of the work was not carried out. As a result, the state suffered damage in the amount of 152 million tenge.
