The Balkhash prosecutor's office prevented unjustified spending of budget funds amounting to over 1.2 billion tenge in the area of public procurement.

According to the press service of the Karaganda region prosecutor's office, since the beginning of the year, at the initiative of the department, six public procurement procedures worth a total of more than 3 billion tenge have been cancelled. Of these, Balkhash accounts for 1.2 billion tenge.

The grounds for this were inflated estimated costs, the inclusion of economically unjustified volumes of work in the tender documentation, and other facts creating a risk of inefficient use of budget funds.

The saved funds are planned to be directed towards solving the city's pressing social issues.

"The city prosecutor's office will continue systematic work to identify violations in the area of public procurement and ensure transparent, efficient spending of budget funds," the statement said.

Recall that earlier the prosecutor's office of the city of Kurchatov in the Abay region cancelled a lot for the purchase of two yurts with a total cost of more than 9 million tenge after identifying inflated prices. The lot provided for the purchase of only yurts without furniture and national decoration. Journalists analysed similar procurement for May-June and found that the maximum price for 12-rope yurts does not exceed 2.6 million tenge.
