The government has approved a Comprehensive Action Plan to combat the shadow economy for 2026–2028. The document sets target indicators for reducing the share of the shadow economy in GDP and provides for the introduction of digital tools to increase the transparency of economic processes.

Kazakhstan expands oil refining capacity amid attacks on CPC infrastructure

The Government of Kazakhstan has embarked on a large-scale expansion of its oil refining industry. The country will increase the capacity of its three largest refineries and is working on plans to build a new refinery with a capacity of 10 million tonnes per year. This development comes amid repeated incidents at the marine terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC).

The area of the forest fire in the "Semei ormany" state forest nature reserve turned out to be significantly larger than the preliminary estimate. JSC "NC "KazAvtoZhol" has announced the start of major repairs and expansion of a section of the Almaty – Bishkek international highway from the 19th to the 27th kilometre in the Karasai district of the Almaty region. The project provides for an increase in the number of traffic lanes from four to eight and the modernisation of one of the busiest entrances to Almaty.

AFM has liquidated an online casino with a turnover of 7.5 billion tenge based in Georgia

The Financial Monitoring Agency (FMA) has shut down the online casino "Nomad Poker," which was operating in Kazakhstan. According to the investigation, the gaming platform was run through a network of foreign money mules, and the total amount received from players exceeded 7.5 billion tenge.

The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan has taken the situation under control following the explosion in Shchuchinsk.

A gas cylinder explosion occurred in a café in the town of Shchuchinsk, Akmola Region. Seven people died and 28 were injured. The authorities reported that a criminal case has been opened, compensation will be paid to the families of the deceased and the injured, and medical assistance and support will be provided by the akimat and the café administration.

The Supreme Audit Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan audited the activities of JSC "Centre for Electronic Finance" for 2020–2024. Financial violations totalling 566 million tenge, inefficient use of funds amounting to 764 million tenge, and ineffective planning worth 12.7 billion tenge were identified.
