27 April at the Orlovskaya mine in the Abay region, an employee of the enterprise died as a result of a rockfall. Another worker was injured and is under medical observation. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the incident.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to information from KAZ Minerals, the incident occurred at the Orlovskaya mine, part of Vostoktsvetmet LLP, located in the Borodulikha district. Two employees were trapped under the rubble: one died at the scene, the second was rescued and handed over to medical services.
"A special commission has been established to determine the causes and circumstances of the accident. A comprehensive investigation is underway," the company reported.
The press service emphasised that the company will provide all necessary support to the family of the deceased employee and to the injured worker.
In addition, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of KAZ Minerals, Oleg Novachuk, has headed to the scene.
WHAT THE POLICE REPORTED
The Police Department (PD) of the Abay region confirmed the fatality and reported that a criminal case has been opened.
No further information is being disclosed in accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
CONTEXT AND SIGNIFICANCE
This is not the first tragic incident at the company's facilities in this region.
On 19 March 2026, a gas release occurred at the same site. One worker died, and two others were hospitalised.
On 19 September 2024, a similar rockfall at the Orlovskaya mine resulted in the death of one employee.
A series of incidents at one enterprise is intensifying public attention on issues of industrial safety and working conditions in the mining industry.
