In the Akmola Region, two residents of Stepnogorsk — a father and son — have been detained on suspicion of stealing 77 horses. The total damage to the owner of the herd has been estimated at 25.45 million tenge. More than 40 animals have already been returned to their owner.

HOW THE HERD DISAPPEARED

According to the Telegram channel Hola News, in May 2026 the owner of the horses contacted the police after the animals disappeared from free grazing in the Yereymentau district.

The search for the missing herd continued for several months.

WHAT THE INVESTIGATION ESTABLISHED

According to the investigation, in the spring the suspects transported 77 horses to Stepnogorsk. The animals were kept in pens outside the city and then gradually sold.

Police checked meat markets, possible channels for selling the animals and persons previously convicted of similar crimes. As a result, they were able to identify and detain the father and son.

HOW MANY HORSES WERE RETURNED TO THE OWNER

At present, the owner has been returned more than 40 horses out of the 77 that went missing. The remaining animals have not yet been found, or information about their whereabouts is not being disclosed.

Both suspects are in custody. Other details of the investigation have not yet been specified.
