The Department of the Financial Monitoring Agency (FMA) of Aktobe Region has completed an investigation into a case of negligence that led to the destruction of the "Magadzhanskaya" dam in the Khromtau District.
According to the agency's press service, the dam burst due to the improper performance of official duties by a responsible employee of the akimat (local administration). It is noted that he failed to ensure control over the technical condition of the structure, did not conduct inspections, and did not take the necessary measures to prevent the accident.
As a result, last spring, villages in the Alga District were flooded, as well as dacha (holiday home) communities near the Ilek and Kargaly rivers. At the time, 215 people were evacuated, including 96 children. The total amount of damage amounted to more than 211 million tenge.
Ultimately, the court sentenced the guilty party to 1 year and 6 months of restriction of liberty. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force.
For context, in May, the Atbasar District Court of Akmola Region found the akim (head) of the Sergeevsky rural district, Kairat Kozhakhmetov, guilty of negligence, which, according to the investigation, led to the flooding of 19 houses in the village of Samarka during the spring flood of 2024.
For his part, the convicted akim denies his guilt. In a video message published on his social media page, he stated that he had been made the "scapegoat" in the situation.
