Volunteers from Aktau have called on the police to identify the man who gave naswar to a stray cat in a video. Animal welfare activists are also trying to find the animal and establish where the footage was filmed.
WHAT HAPPENED
A video is circulating on social media in which a man places naswar into a stray cat's mouth. According to the volunteers, the animal approached the man trustingly, expecting food.
Animal welfare activists believe the incident requires investigation.
WHAT THE VOLUNTEERS ESTABLISHED
The volunteers established that the author of the video is presumably a resident of Aktau. However, they have not yet been able to find the specific location where it was filmed. According to them, the background in the recording was darkened, making it impossible to determine the location.
At the same time, the animal welfare activists are trying to find the cat itself. They have stated their readiness to travel to collect the animal and provide it with the necessary help.
WHY NASWAR IS DANGEROUS FOR AN ANIMAL
Naswar is a smokeless tobacco product that contains tobacco and alkali. The product also contains nicotine.
Nicotine entering an animal's body can cause vomiting, excessive salivation, loss of coordination, weakness, rapid heartbeat, tremors and seizures. In cases of severe poisoning, death is possible.
This is precisely why the animal welfare activists fear that after the naswar entered the cat's mouth, it may have suffered nicotine intoxication.
CONTEXT
A similar case of cruelty to stray animals received publicity in the Almaty Region. In the dacha community "Pchelki", two stray dogs were found with severe injuries — a total of seven wounds were counted on the animals. Volunteers suggested they may have been struck with an axe.
Later, a woman living on a neighbouring street came out to the investigative team and neighbours and admitted that she had struck the dogs with an axe. She explained her actions by claiming that the animals had supposedly eaten her chickens.
