Residents and visitors of the Almaty, Zhambyl and Zhetysu regions have been advised to take precautions due to the threat of mudflow events and rising river levels during the period of 3–5 July.
WHICH REGIONS ARE AT RISK
According to the State Institution "Kazseleshchita" of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), in the mountainous and foothill areas of the Almaty, Zhambyl and Zhetysu regions, intense slope runoff and rising river levels are expected due to high air temperatures and forecast heavy rain.
The authority warned that landslides and mudflow events are possible. Residents and tourists have been urged to take precautions.
WHAT IS THE CURRENT SITUATION IN ALMATY
The current conditions on the Kargaly, Akzai, Kishi Almaty and Ulken Almaty rivers are under control.
Round-the-clock monitoring is in place on these rivers, and the hydrological situation currently remains stable.

CONTEXT
On 1 July, residents of part of the Nauryzbai district of Almaty were temporarily evacuated due to the threat of mudflows. People were temporarily housed in reception centres set up on the basis of the district's schools. The cause was forecast heavy rainfall in the mountainous area and the risk of mudflow formation.
