In the evening of 1 July 2026, heavy downpours led to flooding in Cholpon-Ata and several settlements in the Issyk-Kul district. Rescuers, engineering vehicles and civil protection services dealt with the aftermath of the bad weather.
WHERE THE FLOODING OCCURRED
According to Kaktus.media, citing the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), after heavy rain in the Bidzai microdistrict of Cholpon-Ata, the water level in the Aral-Sai riverbed rose. The flow of water flooded the territory of the TNK Beton plant and nearby dormitories. Seven units of engineering equipment were brought in to deal with the consequences, and by evening the water was diverted back into the main channel.
WHICH FACILITIES WERE AFFECTED
Water entered the basement of a residential building on Talas Street, from which rescuers pumped it out using a motor pump. The threat of flooding to the Archa Max guest house, whose courtyard was flooded after the heavy rain, was also eliminated.
In addition, in the village of Chok-Tal, a rise in the water level in the river caused bank erosion. Two excavators were sent for restoration work.

The situation on the ground is being monitored by the Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations, Almazbek Asanov, and the head of the MES department for the Issyk-Kul region, Mirlan Karabaev.
CONTEXT
A similar weather situation is developing in Almaty. Due to forecast heavy rainfall in mountainous areas and the threat of mudflows, the MES has organised a preventive evacuation of residents from part of the Nauryzbai district.
Emergency services have switched their forces to an enhanced mode of operation, set up an operational headquarters and strengthened monitoring of mudflow-prone areas. According to the Department of Emergency Situations (DES) of Almaty, the hydrological situation remains stable, but residents are advised to take precautions and temporarily refrain from spending time in the mountains until weather conditions improve.
