On 21 April, Majilis deputy Murat Abenov reported the detention of two foreigners with weapons at the Highvill residential complex in Astana. The police later clarified that the items in question were antiques, and the information about the detention was not confirmed.
WHAT HAPPENED
On his Facebook page, deputy Murat Abenov reported the detention of two foreigners.

"Last night, in an apartment at Nazarbayev University in the Highvill residential complex, officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan detained two foreigners with an arsenal of weapons: rifles, pistols," wrote Murat Abenov.
WHAT THE UNIVERSITY SAID
The press service of Nazarbayev University (NU) denied any connection between the incident and the educational institution — the owners of the items are not employees or teaching staff of the university.
"The apartment contained historical rarities from the 15th to 18th centuries. These are museum exhibits that cannot be used for their original purpose," clarified NU.
POLICE COMMENT
According to the Department of Police (DP) of Astana city, the information circulating on social media about the detention of foreigners with weapons does not correspond to reality.
"The fact that items were brought into the residential building did indeed occur. A report came from a vigilant female resident. However, during the inspection, it turned out that the box contained antique weapons representing historical and cultural value," noted the press service of the department.
