At the entrance to Astana, police officers detained a 44-year-old man suspected of transporting drugs for further distribution. In his car and in caches on the city territory, more than three kilogrammes of mephedrone were discovered.
HOW THE DRUGS WERE DISCOVERED
According to police information, at one of the checkpoints at the entrance to the capital, officers stopped a Toyota car driven by the suspect.
During a search of the vehicle, police officers found six bricks containing a powdery substance. Later, the detainee indicated locations in Astana where he had previously left so-called stashes.
An examination confirmed that the seized substance is mephedrone. The total weight of the drug exceeded three kilogrammes.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE SUSPECT
According to the investigation's version, the man was acting as a courier and was supposed to hand over the drugs for further distribution.
A criminal case has been opened on the fact of illegal drug trafficking. The suspect has been arrested.
WHO ELSE THE POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR
Law enforcement officers are identifying other persons who may be involved in the transportation and distribution of drugs.
The operation was carried out as part of the operational and preventive measure "Qarasora", aimed at identifying and suppressing drug-related crimes.
Recall that earlier in Astana, police officers detained five men suspected of selling drugs through the online shop "Pepe". During searches of rented flats, law enforcement officers seized about 12 kg of drugs, including marijuana, hashish and cannabis resin, as well as 238 biscuits containing cannabis resin. All five suspects are in custody, and a pre-trial investigation is under way.
