In Astana, a court has sentenced a man who attempted to destroy another person's property by arson. The convicted man acted according to instructions received on the social network Instagram, expecting to receive a reward of $2 thousand.

HOW THE INCIDENT HAPPENED

According to the Prosecutor's Office of the City of Astana, the man made contact via Instagram and agreed to carry out unlawful acts for a monetary reward.

He threw pre-prepared incendiary devices towards a residential building. At the time of the incident, people were inside, creating a real threat to their life and health.

"The crime was not completed due to circumstances beyond his control," the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of the City of Astana reported.

WHAT THE COURT DECIDED

The court found the man guilty of attempting to destroy another person's property. When passing the sentence, it was taken into account that he had a previous unspent criminal record.

Ultimately, the court imposed a final sentence of 3 years and 6 months imprisonment.

COMMENT FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE OF THE CITY OF ASTANA

The city prosecutor's press service emphasised that participation in unlawful schemes offered via social networks entails criminal liability.

Citizens were reminded that agreeing to dubious side jobs can lead not only to imprisonment but also to a threat to the life and safety of others.
