The military court of the Akmola garrison has considered a criminal case of fraud involving two current servicemen of the Ministry of Defence and their former colleague.
According to Informburo.kz, they misappropriated funds from the military unit's budget by drawing up fake documents regarding their state of health.
On the basis of the forged documents, the servicemen were declared unfit for service, after which they received large payouts: one — more than 33 million tenge, the second — around 50 million tenge. Their former colleague acted as an intermediary in the scheme, receiving 4 million tenge from each of them for his 'help'.
The court found the three defendants guilty and sentenced them to between 6 and 6.5 years' imprisonment. The verdict has not yet come into force and may be appealed.
Recall that in August of last year, a group of officials were convicted for the theft of 491.6 million tenge, allocated for the capital repair of sewage treatment facilities in the military town of the Saryozek garrison in the Almaty region.
In September, police detained the deputy commander-in-chief of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He is suspected of committing an unlawful act. What specific offence is involved has not been reported.
In November, in the Karaganda region, the commander of a battalion of military unit No. 29108 in the Kerbulak district of the Zhetysu region was detained with a large batch of drugs. During a search of the boot of his car, police discovered 18 packages of white powder with a total weight of around 12 kg.
