A military commander has been detained with 12 kg of drugs in the Karaganda region

In the Karaganda region, a division commander from military unit No. 29108 in the Kerbulak district of the Zhetysu region was detained with a large batch of drugs.

According to ORDA, the regional police department reported that he was initially stopped on the Balkhash — Saryshagan road for a traffic violation. Furthermore, the vehicle had no licence plates.

During a search of the boot, police discovered 18 packages containing a white powder with a total weight of approximately 12 kg.

"An investigative team was called to the scene, which confirmed the presence of the prohibited substance. A criminal case has been opened, the suspect has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility," the police department reported.

Meanwhile, the press service of the Ground Forces commented on the detention of the division commander.

"On 10 November, a serviceman from one of the military units of the Saryozek garrison, who was on leave, was detained by officers of the National Security Committee department for the Zhetysu region while transporting narcotic drugs. A criminal case has been opened, and investigative and operational measures are underway. The Ground Forces are assisting law enforcement agencies to ensure an objective investigation of the incident," the agency stated.

It will be recalled that in August, officials from the Main Directorate for Troop Billeting, JSC 'Áskeri Qurylys', representatives of design and technical supervision, and other defendants were convicted for the embezzlement of 491.6 million tenge, allocated for the major overhaul of sewerage treatment facilities in the military town of the Saryozek garrison, Almaty region.

In September, police detained the deputy commander-in-chief of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He is suspected of committing an unlawful act. The specific nature of the offence has not been reported.
