The Kazybekbi District Court of Karaganda has delivered a verdict in a corruption case involving the Department of State Revenues (DSR).
According to the press service of the courts of Karaganda, the main defendant in the case was the head of the customs administration department of the DSR for the Karaganda region. Between February and May 2024, he accepted bribes totalling 334,000 tenge.
According to the investigation, the bribes were intended to avoid administrative liability in connection with violations when completing declarations.
The intermediaries were the head of the tariff regulation department of the DSR and a transport logistics manager of one of the limited liability partnerships. The bribes were handed over by four heads of private companies.
As a result, the court imposed a fine on the main defendant in the amount of 21.7 million tenge, and on the head of the tariff regulation department of the DSR – 2.5 million tenge. The transport logistics manager was ordered to pay 540,000 tenge.
The bribe-givers were given fines ranging from 810,000 tenge to 3 million tenge. All convicts were banned for life from holding positions in the civil service and in the quasi-public sector.
It will be recalled that in September 2023, a court of first instance found guilty of corruption employees of the customs service of the DSR for Almaty: Asanbay M., Bekzhunisova D., and Anarbekov M. The officials repeatedly received bribes from entrepreneurs for the unhindered passage of customs control.
In December 2024, a leading specialist of the DSR for the West Kazakhstan Region was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. It was reported that he had received money from an entrepreneur on an especially large scale. The bribe was intended for assistance with the accelerated and unimpeded passage of heavy goods vehicles through the 'Syrym' checkpoint.
