Prompt actions by rescue workers and road services helped clear flooding on a republican highway in the Pavlodar Region and prevent the inundation of residential homes in the village of Troitskoye, Akmola Region, caused by intensive snowmelt.
In the Pavlodar Region, due to snowmelt, water overflowed across the republican highway "Astana – Shiderty - Pavlodar – Uspenka". The total length of the flooded section was 100-150 metres, and the water depth reached 5-8 cm.
According to the press service of JSC "NC "KazAvtoZhol", this section of road is located in a low-lying area, which contributed to the accumulation of meltwater. The overflow has now been cleared.
"At the 217 km mark, there is a culvert pipe with a diameter of 1×1 m; it is currently open and has been cleaned. To prevent further overflow and minimise the consequences, 200 tonnes of sand and 800 bags have been prepared, with 1 excavator, 1 loader, 3 dump trucks, 2 road repair service (RRS) units, and 30 workers from DEU-60 deployed," the statement said.
As of 19 March, traffic on the road is operating normally, with no congestion observed.
Meanwhile, the Department for Emergency Situations (DES) of the Akmola Region reported that the flood threat to the village of Troitskoye in the Zerenda District had been lifted. Due to active snowmelt and the inflow of meltwater, there was a risk of flooding to private residential homes there.
"Thanks to the prompt actions of the state civil protection system, flooding of homes was prevented. Approximately 200 cubic metres of inert materials were delivered and laid down," the DES reported.
It was noted that over the course of a day in the Zerenda District, more than 500 cubic metres of water were pumped out and over 2 km of drainage ditches were cleared.
