A criminal case has been opened due to the dam breach in the Almaty region.

Prosecutors in the Almaty region have opened a criminal case regarding the breach of the Voroshilov Reservoir dam. 

According to the press service of the department, on 30 March, as a result of the breach, two settlements where more than 12,000 people live were at risk of flooding. Some of them were urgently evacuated. 

It is reported that in 2017, the finance department of the Almaty region transferred the reservoir under a trust management agreement to Individual Entrepreneur 'Petrova L.'. At the same time, it remains on the balance sheet of State Municipal Enterprise for Water Management 'Iliirrigatsiya' of the regional agriculture department. 

The regional prosecutor's office has registered a criminal case under Article 371 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Negligence), and the investigation has been assigned to the Anti-Corruption Service department for the Almaty region. 

Earlier, the prosecutor's office had already opened a criminal case regarding a dam breach. On 29 March, a dam at the 'Shcherbakovskoye' reservoir breached in the Aitekebi district of the Aktobe region. 

Due to the threat of flooding, local authorities evacuated 927 people, including 215 children, from the village named after Zhurgenov. Later, the regional prosecutor's office announced the initiation of a criminal case. 

After that, there was a further report of another dam breach in the Aktobe region. This time, the dam of the Magadzhan Reservoir in the Tabantal rural district of the Khromtau district breached. The water reached Aktobe and flooded the Alga district
