On the motorway KAZ04 "Astana – Pavlodar", road services identified a section with warping of the cement concrete surface and have begun repairs. The defect was discovered on 1 June 2026 during a routine patrol.
WHAT HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY
According to JSC "NC "KazAvtoZhol", during a routine patrol, specialists identified two potentially dangerous points of surface heaving. If left to develop further, such sections could have led to the warping of cement concrete slabs.
To prevent defects, preventive work began on these sections from 31 May 2026 and is currently ongoing.
WHERE THE DEFECT WAS FOUND
At around 13:30 on 1 June 2026, during another patrol, road workers recorded warping of the cement concrete surface at kilometre 1356 of the KAZ04 "Astana – Pavlodar" highway in the direction of Pavlodar – Astana.
After the defect was discovered, temporary road signs were immediately set up on the section to ensure traffic safety.
WHAT WAS THE CAUSE
According to preliminary data, the defect was caused by a sharp rise in air temperature to +35…+37°C.
In such weather conditions, thermal expansion of the concrete slabs occurs. This can lead to internal stresses in the surface and subsequent warping of individual sections of the road.
WHAT WORK IS BEING CARRIED OUT
Employees of DEU-61 of the Pavlodar Regional Branch of "KAZhservice" LLP have begun eliminating the identified defect.
Specialists are currently dismantling the damaged section of the cement concrete surface and carrying out work to restore safe passage for traffic.
WHY ROAD MONITORING IS IMPORTANT
JSC "NC "KazAvtoZhol" noted that regular monitoring and patrol work allows for the timely identification of potentially dangerous sections and the implementation of preventive measures.
Drivers are asked to comply with the requirements of temporary road signs and speed limits in areas where work is being carried out.
