The trial of the mayor of Akshatau village took a new turn after the prosecution softened the charge, detailing its version of the conflict between the official and a 23-year-old employee of the akimat. The victim insists it was not a domestic quarrel, but an attempted sexual assault.

PROSECUTION'S VERSION: CONFLICT OVER DEMANDS

Speaking in court, the prosecutor for Shet District, Kurmet Zhanabergenov, stated that the conflict between the mayor and the victim arose due to her demands.

According to the prosecution's version, the young woman insisted that Nurlan Seilbekov travel with her to Karaganda and personally tell her parents that she had previously had an abortion because of him. The mayor refused, after which, the prosecution claims, a conflict occurred between the parties, resulting in the victim sustaining signs of beatings.

A new indictment was read out in court, under which the mayor's actions are classified as intentional infliction of minor bodily harm.

QUOTE FROM THE INDICTMENT

Prosecutor Kurmet Zhanabergenov read the following wording of the charge in the courtroom:

"The mayor of the village, Seilbekov N.T., realising the illegality of his actions and foreseeing their socially dangerous consequences, intentionally, with the aim of suppressing the victim's demand and carrying out his criminal intent directed at the intentional infliction of minor bodily harm on Rakhymzhanova A.A., struck her three times with his palm on the left cheek in the hallway of the house. He dealt one blow with his right hand to Rakhymzhanova's nose, causing bleeding. Then, grabbing and pulling her, he held her, demanding she not scream, during which Rakhymzhanova sustained bodily injuries to her shoulders, forearms, finger, knee joints, and neck."

VICTIM'S POSITION: ATTEMPTED SEXUAL ASSAULT

The victim herself presented a different version of events in court. According to her, the mayor attempted to rape her, grabbed her and began trying to persuade her into sexual intimacy.

The young woman stated that, feeling fear and a sense of vulnerability, she began to resist. She claims she sustained the bodily injuries precisely during this resistance, when the official, trying to break her will, used physical force.

REACTION OF THE VICTIM'S FAMILY

The girl's parents sharply criticised the prosecution's decision to drop the more serious charge. They stressed that they are retired internal affairs officers and worked in the internal affairs system for over 25 years.

According to them, they do not understand what could have influenced the change in the supervisory body's position, given that the case materials, witness testimony and expert examination results have not changed.

The parents also said their daughter, Aitolkyn, graduated from Buketov University with a degree in public relations, studied on a grant and went to work in the village under the programme "With a Diploma to the Village!".

They claim what happened has effectively ruined her life.

WHAT NEXT

Currently, the mayor Nurlan Seilbekov remains in custody and is brought to court hearings under escort. The trial is nearing its conclusion.
