Former Vice Minister of Health Olzhas Abishev stated that in 2020, during an investigation, his car and funds were illegally seized as part of searches.
As reported by press.kz citing Abishev, employees of the AFM are now refusing to return the former official's property.
"The court's decision indicates that there was no confiscation of my property. Therefore, if there was no confiscation, the property must be returned – the car, keys, and money", said Abishev.
It is reported that AFM employees claim they cannot find the keys to Olzhas Abishev's car or his money.
"They also cannot find those responsible and refuse to return the property, despite there being no confiscation, which is a violation of the law. All these facts have been transmitted to the prosecutor's office. I expected the prosecutor's office to take action, but not this quickly. The prosecutor's office has opened a criminal case under the article 'embezzlement' against the AFM employees", he added.
According to Abishev, employees of Anticor have registered the criminal case and are investigating all the circumstances of the incident.
For context, at the end of October 2022, the court found former Minister of Health Elzhan Birtanov and former Vice Minister of Health Olzhas Abishev guilty of abuse of official power.
Birtanov was sentenced to 5 years of restricted freedom, and Abishev to 4 years of restricted freedom. Both convicts were permanently banned from holding positions in the civil service.
