In Aktobe Region, a former deputy head of the Martuk District police department was sentenced. He was accused of exceeding official powers for the purpose of obtaining benefits and advantages for himself (Article 362, Part 4, Clause 3 of the Criminal Code). The damage to the state amounted to 243 million tenge.

According to the press service of the regional court, in August 2020, the defendant, while serving as deputy head of the Martuk District police department, handed over physical evidence from a criminal case to LLP "A". This involved more than 600,000 packs of cigarettes without excise stamps.

"At the same time, funds from the sale of the tobacco products were not transferred to the department's bank account from LLP 'A'. As a result, the state suffered material damage on an especially large scale amounting to 243 million tenge," the statement said.

It was reported that the defendant did not plead guilty, arguing that he handed over the cigarettes "for their further sale by LLP 'A', and that he pursued no selfish motives."

Ultimately, the court found the former police officer guilty and sentenced him to 5 years and 6 months' imprisonment, with a lifelong ban from holding positions in public service. He was also stripped of the rank of police major.

Additionally, a special ruling was issued to the head of the Aktobe Region police department.
