In the case of convicted lawyer Kaisar Zhumagaliyev, the names of former Majilis speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin and the nephew of ex-president Nazarbayev – oligarch Kairat Satybaldy – are mentioned.
This was reported by the Telegram channel «Nege.kz», citing court documents.
«Lawyer Kaisar Zhumagaliyev was convicted of fraud. According to court documents, in 2016 he agreed to secure the release of Balkhash businessman Kuat Sultanbekov from prison for $300,000. The businessman's relatives warned the lawyer that 'the Nigmatulin brothers were behind the unlawful persecution'. Zhumagaliyev then convinced them that, thanks to his friendship with Kairat Satybaldy, he could resolve the matter», the message states.
It is noted that the lawyer promised first to transfer Zhumagaliyev from a prison in the East Kazakhstan Region to the Almaty Region, and later to secure the termination of the criminal case.
«The money was to be paid in two tranches – $150,000 for him to begin work on the case, and the same amount to be paid after Sultanbekov's release. The first half was handed over to the lawyer in October 2016. However, the Supreme Court only acquitted the businessman in 2023, which is 7 years after the money was given to the lawyer. In the end, Zhumagaliyev himself was tried and sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison, with a 9-year ban on practising law», the message says.
Recall that in September last year, Court No. 2 of the Baikonyr district of Astana sentenced Kairat Satybaldy to 6 years in prison. Previously, we reported in detail that the first president's nephew is accused of several criminal episodes related to the oil and gas industry.
Later, Satybaldy filed a petition for parole, but the court of the East Kazakhstan Region, after reviewing the case, rejected it.
