Nephew of Nursultan Nazarbayev and businessman Kairat Satybaldy has fully admitted his guilt in a money laundering case at the first court hearing. The proceedings were held online.

According to reports from the media, he also agreed with the amounts of embezzlement he is charged with and expressed a desire to discuss a procedural agreement in the form of a guilty plea and the return of illegally acquired assets.

At the hearing, the prosecutor charged Satybaldy under paragraph 3, part 3, article 218 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan on 'Legalisation of money and (or) other property obtained by criminal means'. The penalty under this article provides for a term of 5 to 10 years imprisonment with confiscation of property.

According to the Anti-Corruption Agency, there is another episode in the businessman's case concerning tax evasion. It is reported that the investigation into this matter is ongoing.

Recall that in September last year, Court No. 2 of the Baikonyr district of Astana sentenced Kairat Satybaldy to 6 years of imprisonment. We previously wrote in detail that the nephew of the first president is accused of several criminal episodes related to the oil and gas industry.

Later, Satybaldy filed a petition for parole, but the court of the East Kazakhstan Region, after consideration, rejected it. At the same time, in December last year, the Anti-Corruption Agency announced the return of $120 million (54.9 billion tenge) by Satybaldy. Also earlier, as part of the pre-trial investigation, the businessman voluntarily returned most of the Baisat market. Later, Satybaldy's son - Bauyrzhan Nursultan returned another part of the same market.
