The wife of Kairat Satybaldy - Gulmira, who is accused of illegal imprisonment, extortion, and arbitrariness, entered into a polemic in court with her former son-in-law Abai Zhunusov

According to Informburo.kz, she attempted to draw attention to allegedly wrongfully closed criminal cases that had been opened against Zhunusov.

"My former son-in-law shouts everywhere that I am the former daughter-in-law of Nazarbayev, but why doesn't he mention that he is my former son-in-law? If I am so powerful and influential, why were the criminal cases against him closed?" – asked Gulmira Satybaldy.

It is reported that the judge stopped the defendant, asking her to phrase the question more correctly. Satybaldy's lawyer asked it differently, inquiring of Zhunusov why the criminal cases against him had been closed.

"I do not hide that I am your son-in-law. You acted alone and referred to influential people, such as your ex-husband Kairat Satybaldy. The cases were closed because there was no evidence of my guilt. You had no moral right to attack me and rob me," – replied Zhunusov.

The judge also noted that VTB Bank had filed a lawsuit against Zhunusov. She asked for clarification on this matter.

"Today, the Meshchansky Court made a decision to recover the debt from me, and I am a debtor to the bank. All my accounts have been blocked since this year, and a VTB representative is working on recovering all my property," – said Zhunusov.

In turn, Zhunusov's lawyer - Rashid Tenizbayev said that currently the Anti-Corruption Service and the bank are conducting a separate criminal investigation related to the construction of the 'Vostochka' Residential Complex. The episode includes charges of fraud on an especially large scale.

"The episode is connected with the construction of 24 houses. And when the financing of the construction was taking place, Zhunusov was being unlawfully deprived of his liberty. At that time, Satybaldy flew to Moscow for a meeting at VTB Bank of Russia, where the issue of financing was discussed. The bank financed the construction because it had been paralysed due to Satybaldy's inefficient management. But it debited the personal guarantee to Zhunusov. At the same time, the bank was misled into believing that Zhunusov was aware and had given his consent. As a result, the money that VTB financed was taken by Satybaldy for her own benefit, leaving the construction project with debts, which were written off onto Zhunusov," – stated Rashid Tenizbayev.

The lawyer also said that in the end, VTB filed a lawsuit with the Meshchansky Court, which issued a ruling to recover 7.8 billion tenge. However, the amount is now much larger due to penalties, delays, and other factors.

It is reported that in early May, a bank representative applied to the Bostandyk District Court, which issued a ruling supporting the decision of the Meshchansky Court. As a result, a private bailiff initiated proceedings within the framework of this debt for the enforcement of the Moscow judicial act.

Let us recall that the charges of illegal imprisonment, extortion, and arbitrariness became known last year in court shortly before the sentencing of Gulmira Satybaldy, who was ultimately sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment for embezzlement and misappropriation of another's property.

The defendant stated then that she does not admit her guilt. The other two defendants in the case — Madi Batyrshayev, accused of arbitrariness and kidnapping, and Rashid Utebekov, accused of kidnapping, partially admitted their guilt.

Entrepreneurs Tursen Alaguzov and Aigul Mekeshova were recognised as victims of the actions of Gulmira Satybaldy and other individuals. The amount of damage caused exceeded 6.6 billion tenge.
