In the first ten months of this year, 26 cases of brucellosis were detected in the West Kazakhstan region.
According to the Kazinform news agency, the head of the regional sanitary and epidemiological control department, Dinara Zhangabergenova, stated that the incidence rate is 3.7 cases per 100,000 population.
Compared to the same period last year, when 31 cases were registered, the number of infected people has decreased by five.
"17 people caught the infection while working on private farms — during animal care, calving, and slaughter. Brucellosis is a dangerous infectious disease transmitted from animals, most often from cattle, sheep, goats, camels and pigs," noted Zhangabergenova.
She added that the main symptoms of the disease include fever, muscle and joint pain, weakness, and excessive sweating.
The department reminded people of the need to observe preventive measures: thoroughly boil milk and cook meat well before consumption, do not drink raw milk or eat products that have not undergone heat treatment.
Furthermore, gloves should be used when caring for animals and cutting meat. Sick animals should be isolated, and it is forbidden to consume products from them. It is also important to wash hands regularly with soap. At the first signs of illness, you should consult a doctor immediately.
To recall, in April, a quarantine was introduced in the village of Kyzyltu, Budennovsky rural district, Mendykarinsky district of the Kostanay region after brucellosis was detected in cattle. At that time, the disease was confirmed in 5 out of 132 examined cattle.
