Quarantine has been declared in the Karabalyk district of the Kostanay region after brucellosis was detected in several dozen animals. The regional veterinary department stated that the restrictive measures will last up to 20 days.
According to Kazinform news agency, citing the department, additional diagnostic tests for brucellosis were carried out twice. In the first phase, specialists checked 193 head of cattle and identified 13 cases of the disease. In the second phase, of 180 animals tested, the disease was found in eight.
It is noted that all infected animals were sent for sanitary slaughter.
"In connection with the positive results for brucellosis from diagnostics, in accordance with veterinary and sanitary rules, restrictive measures are being imposed. Health improvement measures will be carried out through systematic testing every 15-20 calendar days until two consecutive negative results are obtained from the cattle," said the veterinary department.
It has become known that specialists from the Republican Anti-Epizootic Unit will control the process.
"The presumed sources and routes of transmission of the infection were the untimely notification of the rural district's veterinary officer about newly acquired animals, as well as cases of abortions," said the head of the department, Tolegen Imambayev.
In total, on the farm where the infection was detected, the actual number of livestock is 286 head of cattle, 38 pigs and 6 horses.
Recall that in November last year, a livestock market was closed in Atyrau after anthrax bacteria were found in the carcass of a dead animal.
On 12 November, one of the market workers noticed a suspicious cow carcass that had been brought from the WKO. Only four days later did the veterinary services take tissue samples and send them for laboratory testing. The market was then officially closed for quarantine. On 25 November, the skin form of the disease was confirmed in a market worker.
