Kyzylorda police officers were dismissed for sleeping in the canteen during a patrol

Former inspectors of the patrol police company of the Kyzylorda regional police service tried to challenge their dismissal for committing a disciplinary offence in court.

According to the press service of the regional court, in May of last year, the ex-police officers were supposed to patrol the "Samara-Shymkent" highway. However, on that day, internet users published a video showing a police service car parked near a roadside cafe, with patrol officers asleep in one of the establishment's booths.

"The conclusion of the internal investigation established that the plaintiffs, while carrying out their official duties, were negligent in their responsibilities, slept in uniform in a public place, and allowed the dissemination on social media of a high-profile video that discredited the image of the police," the statement said.

Among other things, the officers unjustifiably turned off their body cameras, failing to fully record the course of their duty.

Following this, they were dismissed from the internal affairs bodies for committing a disciplinary offence that discredited police officers.

Disagreeing with the decision, the former law enforcement officers filed a lawsuit with the Kyzylorda City Court seeking reinstatement to their former positions.

The City Court refused to satisfy the claim. The plaintiffs then filed an appeal with the judicial panel for civil cases of the Kyzylorda Regional Court. The panel, having examined the circumstances of the case, upheld the decision of the court of first instance and dismissed the appeal.
