Former employees of the Migration Service Department (MSD) of the Abay region were convicted of bribery with a ban on holding certain positions.
As reported by some media outlets, in the dock were already former head and inspector of the migration service department, as well as a former inspector of the Auezov district police department.
The suspects were accused of receiving a bribe, mediating bribery, and giving a bribe.
According to the investigation, the head of the department received a monetary reward from a police officer for a transfer through the service, acting through an intermediary – the MSD inspector.
The bribe amount was $1000 (476,890 tenge). For this 'modest' reward, the head of the department promised to transfer the inspector of the Auezov district police department to the migration service.
However, the defendants did not admit guilt and asked to be acquitted due to the lack of corpus delicti.
It is noted that the guilt of the convicted was confirmed thanks to the testimony of witnesses, materials from operational-search activities, covert investigative actions, etc.
Court No. 2 of Semey found the police officers guilty of committing crimes.
The head of the MSD was sentenced to 4 years in prison, for the inspector the term of punishment will be 3 years and 6 months with a lifetime ban on holding positions in the civil service and loss of rank.
The inspector of the Auezov district police department received 3 years in prison, taking into account having three young children and a child with a disability as dependents. The execution of her sentence was deferred for 5 years.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
