The former head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau has been detained on suspicion of torture.

Information has emerged online about the detention of one of the associates of the former chairman of the Anti-Corruption Agency Kairat Kozhamzharov - former chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau Talgar Tatubayev.

According to the Telegram channel «Elmedia», Talgar Tatubayev is suspected of using torture.

«Another source told us that former and current employees of the same prosecutor's office and other law enforcement agencies from among the 'Kozhamzharovites' are trying to pull out their ally and accomplice», - the statement said.

The Prosecutor General's Office, for its part, confirmed the information about Tatubayev's detention.

«On 03.07.2025, on suspicion of committing a crime under Article 146, Part 2, paragraphs 1) and 2) of the Criminal Code ('torture'), the former head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, Tatubayev T.M., was detained. Currently, the pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and investigative actions are being carried out aimed at collecting additional evidence», - the department's statement said.

As journalists note, during Kozhamzharov's tenure at the financial police, Tatubayev was the head of the department for detecting and preventing corruption cases at the Agency for Combating Economic and Corruption Crime (ACECC).

Later, he held the post of deputy head of the law enforcement system department of the Presidential Administration. From 2016 to 2018, he headed the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

It is reported that during the period when Kairat Kozhamzharov held the position of Prosecutor General, Tatubayev served as head of the criminal prosecution service of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and then until March 2022 was an advisor to the Minister of Justice.
