Accused of attempting to bribe police officers in the Zhambyl region

In Taraz, a criminal case has been opened against senior police officers for accepting a bribe. 

As reported by journalist “Kozachkov offside”, a certain citizen appealed to the Anti-Corruption Service of the Zhambyl Region with a complaint about unlawful actions by police officers. 

According to the man, law enforcement officers named “Bauyrzhan” and “Galym” demanded 5 million tenge from him in exchange for not prosecuting him for drug possession.

“During covert investigative actions, officers of the Department of the Anti-Corruption Agency for the Zhambyl Region, on 8 April 2024 at approximately 18:00, at the address: Shu city, Seifullin Street, near the ‘Zhaissan-6’ building, after citizen ‘K’ handed over the money, police lieutenant colonel B.S. Kozhabekov was detained. During a personal search, pre-marked funds treated with a special chemical powder in the amount of T2 million were found and seized from him. Police lieutenant colonel G.T. Shonbasov was detained at his home address.”, the statement reads.

According to media reports, the Anti-Corruption Service in turn confirmed the fact of investigative actions against senior Taraz police officers.

“Yes, we confirm that the anti-corruption service for the Zhambyl Region is conducting a pre-trial investigation against the heads of departments of the Interdistrict Office for Combating Drug Crime of the Police Department of the Zhambyl Region.”, the press service of the Anti-Corruption Service reported.
