A specialised inter-district criminal court in Astana has delivered a verdict in a high-profile case concerning the embezzlement of funds in the state defence procurement sector. This was reported by the press service of the Financial Monitoring Agency.
In November 2023, it was reported that the general director of RSE "Kazarnaulyexport (Kazspecexport)" Arman Ramazanov, the director of the import department of the same company, Azat Kudabayev, and several military goods suppliers had been detained.
They were accused of corruption and embezzlement of budgetary funds allocated for the procurement of military-purpose products. The damage to the state exceeded 1.6 billion tenge.
It has become known that the court found Ramazanov guilty and sentenced him to 11 years in prison. Kudabayev was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. The other defendants were given varying prison terms.
Additionally, 1.6 billion tenge was recovered in favour of the state, and the convicted individuals' property worth 607 million tenge was confiscated.
It will be recalled that in January, in Astana, the acting head of RSE "Kazspecexport" Arashat Ayaganov was sentenced. He was found guilty of abuse of official powers in the supply of armoured vehicles. The damage to the state amounted to 2.8 billion tenge.
Incidentally, the FBRK editorial team previously reported that "Kazspecexport" was holding tenders for specialised equipment and machinery. In particular, bulletproof vests, demolition kits, and MiG aircraft were put up for sale.
