Deputy head of a customs post in Astana convicted of taking a bribe

A sentence has been handed down in Astana to the deputy head of a customs post. She was accused of accepting a bribe. Alongside her in the dock was a female citizen, who was convicted of smuggling goods and offering a bribe.

“T., as deputy head of the customs post, accepted a bribe of 1,060,000 tenge for the illegal import by citizen D. across the customs border via the ‘Istanbul-Astana’ flight of undeclared gold items and medical drugs, and the latter handed over the said monetary reward”, reported the press service of the Astana courts.

Ultimately, the court found the defendants guilty and imposed a fine of 63 million tenge on the deputy head, and ordered citizen D. to pay a fine of 28.1 million tenge. In addition, the convicted individuals were banned from holding public office for life.

Recall that earlier, it was reported that the smuggled jewellery which citizen D. tried to bring into Kazakhstan was valued at 57 million tenge.
