A TikTok video could cost a 22-year-old student from the Ordabasy district of the Turkestan region 11 million tenge. The girl filmed herself picking Greig's tulips, which are listed in the Red Book.
The press service of the Turkestan Regional Police Department reported that the girl picked the flowers from a field located in the Uyalyzharsky rural district. She most likely did not know that Greig's tulips are protected by law.
“The fact of illegal handling of rare and endangered plant species has been registered with the police department. All circumstances are being established”, the statement reads.
According to media reports, the girl could face criminal punishment. Article 339 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, “Illegal handling of rare and endangered species of plants or animals, as well as those prohibited for use,” provides for a fine of up to 3,000 MCI (11 million tenge).
