The environmental prosecutor's office identified more than 30 illegal dumpsites in Almaty during a monitoring exercise.
The department's press service reminded that, according to the Law "On Local State Governance and Self-Government in the Republic of Kazakhstan", the responsibility for organising improvement work falls on district akims.
As a result, for violations of environmental requirements regarding waste management, the deputy akims of the Medeu and Turksib districts, as well as the head of the apparatus of the akim of the Alatau district, were brought to administrative responsibility.
"As a result of the measures taken, the akimats carried out work to eliminate the identified dumpsites. Monitoring of compliance with environmental order in the city continues," the statement said.
It will be recalled that earlier in the Abay region, for formal reports on the elimination of 347 illegal dumpsites, deputy akims of the Ayagoz, Borodulikha, Zharma and Beskaragay districts, as well as the head of the housing and communal services department of Semey, were brought to administrative responsibility.
Meanwhile, the situation in the capital is radically different. The Department of Ecology and the Sanitary and Epidemiological Control Department of Astana are demonstrating a masterclass in sabotage of state control.
Thus, ecologists demand that journalists first identify the violators, while sanitary doctors cannot conduct an inspection of medical waste due to the absence of the company director. As a result, the capital's supervisory bodies are replacing real inspections with formal dismissals, and responsibility for obvious violations remains unclear.
