An unauthorised landfill has been discovered near the Ishim River.

Submitted by Вера Александрова on

Journalists from FBRK have discovered an unauthorised dump of waste near the Sancy residential complex on the banks of the River Ishim. On the land adjacent to the water protection zone, an accumulation of construction debris, discarded furniture, and household waste, including organic matter, has been identified.

The fact that waste has been placed near a body of water raises concerns, especially ahead of the spring period, when melting snow could lead to pollutants entering the soil and water.

In light of this, we have sent formal requests to the Akimat of the city of Astana, the Department of Ecology, and the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control. The requests contain information about the identified violation and a request for appropriate measures to be taken to eliminate the dump.

Previously, the FBRK editorial team analysed who may be polluting the Astana Reservoir, identifying companies and individuals involved in causing environmental damage to the water resources of the capital region.

Under current environmental legislation in Kazakhstan, the unauthorised disposal of waste constitutes an administrative offence and entails fines of varying amounts depending on the status of the offender and the extent of the harm caused.

Our editorial team will continue to monitor the situation and inform readers of the measures taken by state authorities to address this issue.
