The Zhanaarka District Court of the Ulytau Region considered an administrative case against the akimat of the Ainabulak rural district. The village administration was accused of violating environmental legislation.

According to the press service of the region's courts, the inspection was carried out following complaints from villagers about violations of environmental requirements in the handling of solid waste.

“At the court hearing, the deputy head of the Republican State Institution ‘Department of Ecology for the Ulytau Region’ stated that during an unscheduled inspection, violations of environmental legislation were identified, and an administrative offence report was consequently drawn up”, the statement reads.

The court found the akimat guilty and fined the institution 1,809,080 tenge

“Furthermore, the execution of work and provision of services in the field of environmental protection on a land plot of 4,0000 hectares (cadastral number 09-104-009-152), located in the village of Ainabulak, Zhanaarka District, Ulytau Region, has been prohibited for a period of 1 month”, the statement reads.

Recall that in March, Senate Deputy Zakirzhan Kuziev called the information from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources regarding waste sorting in Kazakhstan “drawn on paper”. He also criticised the Ministry of Ecology and akimats for preferring to create huge landfills instead of processing waste.

In early October, environmental activists from Balkhash demanded stricter penalties for those who throw rubbish in unauthorised places. According to them, local residents and organisations that do not want to pay for disposal at the landfill are littering the city outskirts.

For example, on the outskirts of Balkhash, they discovered plastic seating that was previously used at the stadium. It belonged to the city's sports department. The contractor who carried out their replacement was found and held accountable.
