The Department of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition (APDC) in Astana has uncovered evidence of monopolistically high prices being set by the subsidiary JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" (KTZ) - JSC "KTZ EXPRESS".
According to the agency's press office, the company inflated prices for freight forwarding services for military transport in 2021.
It emerged that the forwarding commissions set by the enterprise exceeded permissible limits, reaching 30% of the cost of transport across the country.
As a result, the specialised inter-district administrative court imposed a fine of 853,379 tenge on JSC "KTZ EXPRESS", along with the confiscation of monopoly income amounting to 10,114,304 tenge.
For context, in October last year, inspections at the capital's branch of JSC "NC "KTZ" - "Directorate of Automation and Digitalisation" uncovered evidence of fictitious employment practices. The company's losses due to these "dead souls" amounted to 21 million tenge. At that time, KTZ was recognised as the injured party.
