On 13 July, a possible case of chlorine poisoning was recorded at a swimming pool in Atyrau. 14 people sought medical help.

According to the Atyrau region communications service, as a result of the incident three people were hospitalised, and their condition is currently stable. The rest are under medical observation.

Staff from the agency carried out anti-epidemic measures and took water and air samples, but found no excess levels of chlorine vapour. Laboratory tests are ongoing.

It is noted that the police have opened a criminal case and are conducting an investigation.

On the instructions of the akim of the Atyrau region, those affected are under the supervision of the health department. The head of the region also ordered inspections of all swimming pools and water parks in the area.

Earlier, in the Bulandy district of the Akmola region, six employees of Makinskaya Poultry Farm LLP were hospitalised with a preliminary diagnosis of "chlorine poisoning" after a night shift.

At that time, sanitary and epidemiological surveillance specialists also took air measurements but found no excess levels. According to them, the chlorine vapour may have dissipated because people had opened doors and windows.
