Details have emerged of a mass chlorine poisoning at the Palma water park in Atyrau. According to the latest information, 14 people were affected, including children.
As reported by the Telegram channel "HALYQSTAN", the incident occurred amid a series of sudden power outages. Police have opened a criminal case and are conducting an investigation.
Eyewitnesses reported that during their time at one of the pools, visitors noticed a yellow spot — believed to be a build-up of chlorine. Panic then ensued: children began to choke and run out of the water, with several people suddenly feeling unwell.
It is noted that three children were hospitalised in a serious condition — they were taken to intensive care with lung and brain damage. The other victims received assistance at the scene or were taken to hospitals showing signs of poisoning from chemical vapours.
It has emerged that the water park was operating without the necessary permits at the time of the incident. The exact circumstances of the event will be determined by the investigation.
The owners of Palma have apologised to the parents of the affected children and stated that they are ready to fully cover the costs of medical treatment.
To recall, on 13 July, a case of chlorine poisoning was recorded in a pool in Atyrau. 14 people sought medical help.
Regional communications staff carried out anti-epidemic measures, taking samples of water and air, but no exceedances of chlorine vapour were detected. It was reported that laboratory tests are ongoing.
